At 8:15 on Friday evening, I was sitting in traffic somewhere near Greater Kailash, watching the same red brake lights move a few metres and stop again.

I had come to South Delhi for dinner. That was the entire plan.

My friend was already at M Block Market, sending messages every few minutes asking where I was. I was still trying to find parking and wondering why I had agreed to meet on a Friday evening.

By the time I finally reached, dinner had already become a much longer plan than expected. We ate. Then came coffee.

Then a walk around the market. Then, somehow, another stop because we spotted a place neither of us had tried before. It was almost 11 PM when we finally checked the time.My friend looked at me.

“You're not driving back now, are you?”

I looked at the road outside. The weekend had barely started, and I was already tired.

“Ab ghar jaane ka mann bhi nahi kar raha.”

That was when the idea came up.

Why not just stay here?

A Last-Minute Search for Somewhere to Stay

We opened our phones and started searching for somewhere nearby. Neither of us wanted to cross half of Delhi at midnight just to reach home.

I searched for a luxury hotel in Greater Kailash Delhi, mainly because I wanted the stay to feel like a proper break rather than an emergency overnight stop. That was how we found The Orion Greater Kailash, on Hansraj Gupta Road in Greater Kailash-I.

The decision was almost entirely practical.

It was in the area we were already in, so we didn't have to start another late-night drive. We checked in, dropped our bags and finally stopped looking at the clock.

The funny thing was that until an hour earlier, neither of us had planned to stay anywhere.

Now we had a room, no alarm set for the morning and an entire Saturday suddenly free. And that changed the weekend.

Saturday Morning Had No Plan

We woke up late.

There was no sightseeing schedule waiting for us and, for once, nobody had sent a message saying, “We have to leave by 9.” We had breakfast and sat around trying to decide what to do. M Block Market was an obvious option, considering we were already in Greater Kailash. So we walked there.

The market looked completely different in the morning compared with the previous night's atmosphere.

Shops were opening, people were meeting for breakfast, and cafés were slowly filling up.

We weren't there to shop for anything specific.

That made it more enjoyable.

We walked around, stopped for coffee and spent nearly an hour talking about absolutely nothing important. At one point, my friend said, “We came here without a plan and we're still somehow sitting in the same place.”

She wasn't wrong.

But nobody wanted to leave.

The Best Part Was Not Having to Rush

Usually, when I spend a day exploring Delhi, I keep checking the time. There's another place to reach.

Traffic will get worse.

Someone is waiting.

I need to get home.

This time, none of that mattered.

We could walk around M Block Market, stop for lunch and simply return to the hotel whenever we felt tired. That's when I understood why choosing a luxury hotel in Greater Kailash Delhi had actually worked for this particular weekend.

It wasn't about spending the whole day inside the hotel.

It was about having somewhere comfortable nearby whenever we wanted to stop.

The Orion Greater Kailash offers Deluxe, Deluxe Twin and Suite room options, along with practical amenities such as Wi-Fi, air conditioning and Smart TV. But during the trip, those details mattered less to me than having a convenient place to leave our bags, rest for a while and head out again.

And that's exactly what we did.

The Afternoon Plan Was Basically a Nap

After lunch, we went back to the room. The original idea was to rest for half an hour. It became almost two hours.

No regrets.

There is something very different about travelling when you don't feel guilty about taking a break.

Around 5 PM, we finally started thinking about the evening.

We had already explored the market.

We had eaten.

We had slept.

So naturally, the next question was:

“Ab kya karein?”

After a few minutes of scrolling through maps, we decided to visit Lotus Temple.

It wasn't part of our original plan.

By this point, that didn't matter anymore.

Saturday Evening: A Completely Different Delhi

The change from M Block Market to Lotus Temple was noticeable. The morning had been noisy and busy.

The evening felt slower. We walked around, took a few photographs and spent some time there without trying to squeeze another attraction into the evening. I think that's something I usually get wrong when travelling. I try to fit too much into a day because I don't want to feel like I've “wasted” time. But this weekend was different. We had already decided that we weren't going to rush. And because the hotel was nearby, there was no pressure to keep going until we were exhausted. After Lotus Temple, we went back towards Greater Kailash for dinner.

Sunday Morning: The Weekend Suddenly Felt Short

Sunday arrived much faster than expected. We had breakfast, packed our bags and realised that we had somehow spent nearly two days in Greater Kailash without making a proper itinerary. We had explored M Block Market.

Tried different food.

Spent far too long over coffee.

Taken an afternoon nap.

Visited Lotus Temple.

And walked around without knowing exactly where we were going next. It wasn't the kind of weekend that looks particularly impressive on a checklist. But it felt like a genuine break. Before checking out, we took one last walk around the neighbourhood. And that's when I realised something. I had always thought of Greater Kailash as somewhere you go for a particular reason.

Shopping.

Dinner.

A meeting.

Coffee with someone.

I had never thought of simply staying there.

What I Would Do Differently Next Time

If I were planning the same weekend again, I wouldn't add more places.

I'd probably do less.

I'd start around M Block Market in the morning, when there is enough activity without the evening rush. I'd leave a couple of hours open for lunch and coffee rather than booking everything in advance.

For places like Lotus Temple, I'd keep the evening free instead of trying to combine several attractions in one outing.

And I'd definitely stay nearby.

That's what made this weekend work.

We weren't spending our time travelling between different parts of Delhi.

We were actually spending it in one neighbourhood.

Maybe a Weekend Doesn't Need to Be Planned

When I first arrived in Greater Kailash on Friday, I thought I was there for dinner. A few hours later, I was looking for a room.

By Saturday morning, I was exploring M Block Market. By Saturday evening, I was sitting near Lotus Temple.

And by Sunday, I was wondering why I had never thought of doing this before. The stay at The Orion Greater Kailash had started as a completely unplanned decision. But for a short break, that turned out to be exactly what I needed.

If you're considering a luxury hotel in Greater Kailash Delhi, I'd say don't build the entire weekend around the hotel. Use it as your base, step outside and let the neighbourhood do the rest.

Because sometimes the most enjoyable trips aren't the ones you've planned for weeks.

They're the ones that begin with:

“Chal, dekhte hain.”

And somehow end two days later with you wishing you had one more night.
